Renovated Jolly statue back in town
The Jolly Fisherman has been restored and returned to Compass Gardens.
The statue of one of Skegness’s most famous mascots has been returned to his home after a brief stint away for repairs and a fresh new coat to make him ready for the summer season.
Each year thousands of tourists and visitors marvel at The Jolly Fisherman and perhaps toss a few coins into the fountain he adorns in Compass Gardens on the foreshore.
“Jolly has been away for some winter TLC, ready for a busy season ahead and is now back in place in the centre of the popular Compass Gardens ready to welcome visitors,” said an ELDC spokesperson.
The statue, which had previously become weathered and had damage in places, was taken away for several weeks to be mended by Jolly Roger Amusements.
East Lindsey District Council staff placed the statue back on his fountain plinth last Wednesday. Work was done to mend Jolly’s legs, arms and hands, plus he was also given a brand new pipe. As part of his TLC and general makeover, the statue was also acid-stripped to restore it to its former glory.
