Refurb for untidy former Wainfleet pub

The Angel Inn revamped

A number of dilapidated buildings which had blighted the centre of Wainfleet for many years have been given an overhaul.

Residents had made complaints regarding the properties which district councillor John Upsall says he battled for a number of years to get something sorted.

He felt the buildings and in particular, The Angel Inn which is a disused public house, had become an eyesore for the town after falling into a state of disrepair.

“I think, the work has vastly improved the area and in particular, visitors coming into the town, could see the Angel Inn which was wasn’t looking good. In the summer a lot of people visit Bateman Brewery and have a walk through the town and some of the properties were starting to look shabby,” said Coun Upsall.

The Angel Inn has been a bone of contention for a number of years and has now received a face lift after East Lindsey District Council took direct action to tidy it up. The council used its powers under planning law to carry out the works through a Section 215 notice for untidy land.

The works cost £10,000 in total which included painting to the exterior; guttering and brickwork repairs with total cost being charged back to the property.

Councillor Craig Leyland,Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “Now more than ever, it is vitally important that our towns remain attractive vibrant places that people want to visit. I hope this work has resolved a long standing community issue.”

And Coun Upsall echoed Coun Leyland’s thoughts and said: “I’m sure the town appreciate it and it has been an issue for a long time, we’ve had a good response and the [Wainfleet] town council is pleased.”
