The Spilsby branch of the Royal British Legion held its first meeting on the year at The Red Lion earlier this month (January 15).
It was revealed that the final amount raised by the branch for the Poppy Appeal was £9351.02p.
There were presentations of certificates to poppy collectors Mrs J Holmes, Mrs Hinchcliff, Mr Nick Pettit and Mr Ron Worth for all their years of effort at collecting.
The Co-op generously donated the sum in vouchers of £359 to the branch as part of their Community Challenge scheme. These vouchers will be put to good use by the welfare officer.
A new member, Miss Kelly Odlin, was welcomed into the branch and member Mr Michael Lenton has volunteered to take over the post of branch standard bearer. The membership gave him a vote of congratulations.
The social committee chairman asked members for suggestions for an outing venue sometime later in the summer and Mr Glynn-Owen said moves are afoot to celebrate the anniversary of the Great War in Spilsby by Heritage Lincoln at the Franklin Hall on September 13-14.
He said he hoped the branch would be involved. “If any members of the public have any photos or memorabilia of this period they could loan, we should be grateful,” said a spokesperson.
The next meeting will be held at The Red Lion in Spilsby on Wednesday, February 19.
