Questionnaire to ask public’s views about future of Spilsby Library
THE COMMUNITY are being asked for their views on the future of Spilsby Library.
A questionnaire is being sent to all homes in the area asking residents how they would like to see their local library services developed.
Coun Eddy Poll, executive member for cultural services, for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “While we’ve no plans to close any of our libraries, the service will have to evolve, if it’s to remain affordable.
“In Spilsby, we’re considering relocating the library to either the Co-op Food Store or the Methodist Chapel. We want to know what residents think about this.
“We’d also like to see volunteers become more involved in the running of the library, so we’ll be trying to gauge local interest in this.
“And it’s also a chance for residents to tell us what’s important to them in terms of what the library has to offer, as well as letting us know their views on opening hours.
“We’d really value your views, so please get involved and have your say.”
The questionnaires will be delivered the week commencing Monday, August, 13, and will need to be returned by Monday, September 17, to one of the following places: Spilsby Library, Spilsby Town Council Office, Franklin Hall or Spilsby Post Office.
As reported, in mid July, Spilsby Town Councillors felt that the community and library employees were still in the dark over the future of the service.
Concerns were circulating the town and Coun Winston Baugh commented during the last full Spilsby Town Council meeting, that even the employees ‘don’t know what’s happening’.
But Mayor Coun Michael Lenton said of the questionnaires: “Based on speculation of it going to either place, it’s good that Spilsby will keep its library and it’s a shame about West End but if it has to be closed I understand and the bottom line is, use it or lose it, if the library is transferred, there are bonuses for it being in both locations.
“If it is based in the Co-op then there could be an increased footfall for both and maybe people going for the library will stop to purchase something at the same time. The availability could be a good thing too for the library.”
