Lincolnshire Police would like to make the public aware of companies charging for the renewal of driving licences by adding an additional charge to complete the forms.
This relates to costs in the region of £29.99.
In particular, the cost is being added to the renewal of a driving licence for the category of 70 years and over.
To renew this licence direct with the DVLA is free.
If you choose to use an external company to complete the process for you, you will be charged this additional sum, which is not illegal, but will add to the free cost of renewal.
Police advise to be careful with selecting website addresses on the internet browser search and ensure that if you only want to pay the standard cost for new or renewal, for all licences, to use the following website: www.gov.uk and then select the service you wish to use from the main page.
In addition, always check the website address in the internet browser before you download content or agree to make payment and if in doubt do not proceed and seek further advice.
