PHOTOS: Fire fighters say the Skegness pub fire has been put out
Tuesday, 8.15am: FIRE fighters tackling the blaze at a Skegness seafront pub say the fire has been put out.
The blaze broke out at the Square Peg pub, Grand Parade, at around 5.30pmn last night.
At its height more than 60 fire fighters and 11 fire engines were fighting the blaze.
Now, more than 15 hours later fire fighters are still on the scene, damping down the site after the fire was put out.
Fire fighters believe the blaze started in the cellar of the pub and spread through the building.
It was deemed too dangerous to put fire fighters inside the building so a hydraulic platform was set up and fire fighters doused the building to prevent the fire from spreading.
Grand Parade has been closed off to traffic from the Clock Tower to Scarbrough Avenue and residents living in Edinburgh Avenue were evacuated as a precaution.
East Lindsey District Council provided accommodation for those left without a bed.
No public casualties were reported however one fire fighter was taken to hospital with a twisted knee. He is now at home recovering.
Fire fighters are expected to be on the site for some time yet, ensuring the building is safe and relief crews are due to arrive to relieve fire crews currently on site.
It is too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.
The blaze is just metres from a site devastated by fire in August 2007. That blaze destroyed the Parade Complex and Lucky Strike Arcade. Indeed work to redevelop part of the site began yesterday, Monday.
