Over £2,500 is to be spent at St Mary’s Church in Winthorpe after pigeons ‘invaded’ the bell tower.

The pigeons gained access to the structure after taking advantage of a defect in the protective wire to the louvres in the bell chamber.

A spokesperson for the Skegness Group of Churches said: “It will cost over £2,500 for specialist workers to repair the louvres, clear the accumulated debris, and treat the timbers against the possibility of death watch beetle. This cost will be met from the generous legacy left to us by John Nunn.”
