This is according to Government figures released on Wednesday.

The district’s claimant count dropped from 1,770 to 1,575 during March.

The fall is in line with seasonal trends, with March typically bringing a relatively large fall in the count. Year on year, it has dropped 285.

Following the rollout of Universal Credit, the count now represents those claiming out-of-work benefits rather than Jobseeker’s Allowance.
