New £100,000 play park opens in Skegness' Tower Gardens

Contractors handed over the pirate-themed facility ahead of schedule, meaning it can be enjoyed by young people and their families for the remainder of the half-term break.

The new play park, which is free to use, includes a pirate’s ship at its centrepiece and zip-wire.

East Lindsey District Council contractors started work on January 18 and took just four weeks to complete the new look.

Throughout September the community in Skegness were invited to have their say on what they wanted from the new play park with most respondents saying they most enjoyed sliding, swinging, and climbing. The new play park includes all these features.

The play park also includes a new octopus safety surface, a pod swing, Dippy the bouncy dolphin, flat and cradle seat swings, a treasure chest, barrels and boulders, a Calypso play boat, a shelter play house and a floor trampoline.

The new park also includes play equipment specifically designed to be used by people with special needs.

Portfolio holder with responsibility for play parks at the district council Coun Adam Grist said: “I am pleased work has completed early on this exciting project well in time for the 2016 season and during the half-term break.

“I would like to again thank all those who took part in the consultation to influence the type of equipment that has been installed.

“Play is an important experience for all young people and I hope to see this new park well used.”
