A MOTORCYCLIST drove off after hitting a car because he had no driving licence or insurance and was worried he would be arrested.
Phillip Charles Babic, 52, of Grosvenor Road, Skegness, admitted driving without due care and attention and without a licence or insurance and failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it to police when he appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court last week.
The court heard he was on his motorcycle when he hit the wing mirror of a Citroen Picasso on June 11 at the Trunch Lane/South Road junction at Chapel-St-Leonards. Babic stopped but when the car driver went up to him, he drove off.
The car driver followed him and Babic pulled into a lay-by. When the car driver approached him, he again rode off, but this time the motorist got his registration number.
When interviewed by police, he said he knew he had no licence or insurance and was frightened he would be arrested.
Mitigating, Ms Andrea Wilkes said Babic suffered from depression and worried excessively, which was why he didn’t go to the police. Babic was fined £240 and received six penalty points.
