Model pupils at Skegness Junior School
A HUGE model of Skegness Pier, a sculpture of the Jolly Fisherman and futuristic buildings have been created by pupils at Skegness Junior School.
Children have been building these incredible models as part of a whole-school project called Our Place.
Each year group studied Skegness and made a model to represent the town. Year three made a sculpture of Jolly, and year four designed and made how they would like their classrooms to look in the future.
Year five made a number of buildings, including the pier, Clock Tower, and the Ship Inn, Castleton Boulevard, and year six created moving toy cars, using batteries and motors.
Assistant head teacher Phil Allen said: "We were really amazed by the project. It's been absolutely fabulous.
"The children were amazed too because they've all been doing little bits in their classrooms, but then we put it altogether in one display and they were like 'wow'.
"It was the most fantastic project to do. There was some very good learning taking place."
The children learned about every aspect of design technology, and they planned each project from the minute design details to picking the materials and actually building each structure.
Pupils have also been taking walks around Skegness and learning about its history and the geography of the area as part of the Our Place project.
Each class has also been taken to Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, Skegness, over the last three weeks to do pond dipping, mini-beast tail, dissecting owl pellets and bird-watching.
Mr Allen said: "The children have had a fantastic time. It's been incredible."
