Man wanted in connection with armed robbery found in shed in Hogsthorpe

A police helicopter assisted officers in tracing a Sheffield man who was wanted in connection with an offence of armed robbery.

South Yorkshire police were alerted of the man’s presence in the Ingoldmells area and he was arrested in Hogsthorpe at around 1.30am on Saturday morning. He was found after a short search hiding in a shed.

A 25 year old woman from the Sheffield area was also arrested in Ingoldmells for an offence of assisting an offender, she was later released without charge. During the police operation in Ingoldmells, a silver Ford Focus was seized as the driver did not have any vehicle insurance. A silver Saab was also recovered in Hogsthorpe in connection with enquiries by South Yorkshire Police.

The National Police Air Service helped officers in the search, covering areas along the beach at Ingoldmells and the surrounding area to Hogsthorpe.

As the police helicopter searched the area around Ingoldmells, a laser was shone at the pilot and observer. At around 9.20pm officers were successful in finding the man responsible and he was arrested for an offence of endangering an aircraft.

Sean Franklin, 31, of Nuneaton, was charged with an offence of directly/shining a light at an aircraft in flight so as to dazzle/distract the pilot an offence. He has been bailed to appear at Skegness Magistrates’ Court on April 19.
