Man (51) died after being hit by train on Boston line

UPDATE: Police have confirmed this morning that the person killed on the Boston to Skegness rail line last night was a 51-year-old man.
The man was from the Chapel St Leonards area and his vehicle was recovered from nearby.
British Transport Police have this morning issued the following statement:
“BTP officers were called to the line close to Station Road, Boston, on Tuesday, 9 October following a report of a man being struck by a train.
“BTP and Lincolnshire Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 4.45pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended but the man, believed to be in his fifties and from Chapel St Leonards, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A spokesman confirmed that the train involved was the 3.45pm Nottingham to Skegness service and that the line was handed back to Network Rail at 6.18pm.
Wednesday, 7.30pm: A man hit by a train on the Boston to Skegness line this evening has died.
The Standard understands that an inquest will now be opened into the death of a man struck by an East Midlands Trains service at about 4.40pm.
The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious by police.
The line reopened at about 6.30pm.

Wednesday, 5.45pm: REPORTS suggest a person has been hit by a train heading from Boston to Skegness this afternoon.
The incident took place at about 4.40pm at the Station Road crossing in Eastville.
A spokesman for East Midlands, which runs services on the line, said: “A person has been hit by a train at Eastville level crossing between Boston and Thorpe Culvert.
“The incident happened around 1640 and involved the 1445 service from Nottingham to Skegness. Our immediate thoughts are for the family of the person involved.
“East Midlands Trains services are running between Nottingham and Boston, however buses are currently replacing trains between Boston and Skegness, with journey times extended by up to 45 minutes.
“We are working hard to return services to normal as quickly as possible and would like to apologise to customers for the disruption to their services.”
Network Rail says it will re-open the line as soon as it has permission from British Transport Police.
There are currently no details on the condition of the victim.
