Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue warns motorists to take care on snowy roads after ‘busy weekend’ for emergency services
Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue has issued a warning to motorists to take care on the roads following a ‘busy weekend’ for fire crews across the county.
Snow and ice has struck most of Lincolnshire, leading to a number of road crashes.
“Phew, we’ve had a busy weekend,” said a Lincs Fire & Rescue spokesperson on their official Twitter feed this morning (monda).
“Roads are gritted but please be careful out there, some areas are still slippy.”
They have also issued tips to motorists to help them avoid becoming another statistic.
These include staying watchful for changes in road surfaces as some surfaces are less resistant to ice forming.
They’ve also pointed out that ice frequently forms on bridges as there is no contact with the ground to warm the bridge, and that shaded areas often don’t thaw.
They also advise that isolated roads may not be gritted and call on motorists to use their gears and engine breaking to slow down wherever possible.
If you have to use your brakes, do so in a straight line before entering a corner.
Stopping distances are also greatly increased.
