Landord scheme to bring empty properties back into use
Landlords and people awaiting housing in East Lindsey could benefit from a scheme to bring empty homes back into use.
East Lindsey District Council and the Waterloo Housing Group have teamed up to help landlords who are unable to refurbish their empty properties, using funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Waterloo Housing would refurbish the property, maintain it and lease it to a tenant, providing the owner a regular rental income for up to six years at which point the property would be returned in an improved condition.
The district council’s portfolio holder for the built environment Coun William gray said: “Housing is a real issue in East Lindsey, with over 5,000 people on the waiting list.
“This scheme provides a small number of landlords with an opportunity to improve their empty properties as well as earn a rental income.”
The initial funding is sufficient to refurbish around 10 homes and landlords with two bedroom properties could receive £17,000 over five years.
Landlords interested in the scheme can download an application pack from East Lindsey District Council’s website or contact Helen Wright on 01507 613148.
