‘Irresponsible motorists’ risking lives of themselves and others on landslide road at Eastville

Fodder Dyke Bank in Eastville should be avoided, Lincolnshire County Council say.

Fodder Dyke Bank in Eastville should be avoided, Lincolnshire County Council say.

Motorists removing barriers to travel along a road closed by a recent landslide and floods have been warned of the dangers they face.

Lincolnshire County Council has received reports of drivers ignoring warning signs and driving through floodwater on the closed B1184 at Eastville.

Principal maintenance engineer at the county council David Davies has reiterated his warning to motorists who ignore the closure signs.

He said: “We know it’s frustrating to encounter a road closure sign, especially if, to the naked eye, the way ahead looks like you could navigate it with care.

“However, we close roads for very good reasons which may not be immediately obvious and include damage to road surfaces, submerged hazards, the potential damage to vehicles and the depth of the water.

“We’ve even seen some people removing signs to drive through flood water, which is not only putting themselves and their passengers in danger, but is irresponsible for any unsuspecting vehicles which may follow later. Please respect any road closure signs -the detour will always be worth the potential alternative,” they added.
