Illegal Skegness worker sold alcohol to under-18

A shopworker caught selling alcohol to an under-18 year old in Skegness was discovered to be working illegally.

The staff member working at the Apex store in Wainfleet Road was arrested as a result of the joint operation carried out by officers from Lincolnshire Police and Trading Standards. The case is being dealt with by Home Office immigration officials.

The store was one of a number in Skegness and Burgh Le Marsh targeted in the operation on Saturday, May 31.

A group of 15 and 16 year old police volunteer cadets and a 16 year old volunteer were used to target underage sales of alcohol and tobacco.

Sales were refused at other stores but Jay Chand News on Drummond Road, Skegness was advised to request ID from suspected underage drinkers.

Licensing sergeant Kim Enderby said: “These test purchase operations are all intelligence led, involving premises where we have received information that the staff are selling age-restricted products to underage people.

“We make serious efforts to warn, educate and advise suspect premises to deal with this issue of underage sales and the impact it has upon anti social and criminal behaviour in local communities and the harmful effects on the health of young people.”
