Preparations are underway at The Hildreds Shopping Centre in Skegness to help raise much needed money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

From Monday, March 24, Unit 9 will be used as a pop-up RNLI shop and the Skegness Lifeboat team dressed in their uniforms will raise funds for the charity.

Deputy centre manager, Steve Andrews, said “The Hildreds Shopping Centre has a proud connection with the Skegness Lifeboat and has supported them ever since the Centre opened in 1988. We hope to get lots of people visiting, learning about the great work that the RNLI do in Skegness and across the UK, and even pop a penny or two into their collection tins.

“The Hildreds life-sized animated ‘Jolly John Coxswain’, of the Skegness lifeboat, will be telling the history of the lifeboat station in Skegness and even singing the odd sea shanty or two,” added Steve.

The RNLI is a registered charity and relies heavily on donations.

The organisation intends to reduce the number of injuries and deaths at the beach by helping people to understand the dangers and to know what to do if someone gets into difficulty.
