It is believed the home in Dorothy Avenue was targeted while the woman and her very ill husband were taking their dogs for a walk around 7.15pm on Wednesday, November 25.

They returned just over an hour later to find someone had entered the house by a rear door and made an untidy search of the bedrooms.

DC Gary Mathews said: “This despicable burglar has targeted the home of an 87 year-old lady, who is the carer for her very ill husband. Along with cash, there were pieces of jewellery stolen which had immense sentimental value, including cufflinks belonging to the lady’s son, who died a few years ago, and heirloom pieces which belonged to her grandmother.

“Every item the victim wrote on this list meant something special to her but to the burglar was simply a quick way of making some cash and they have no regard for the distress caused.

“I am appealing to anyone who has seen these items offered for sale, or who has any information about this burglary, to contact Skegness CID”.

Anyone with information should contact DC Mathews by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 441 of 25 November. Report crimes anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
