Volunteers from Skegness lifeboat station are looking for new members and fundraisers to be part of the team and are inviting you to one of two recruitment open days.

The first one is being held on Saturday and the RNLI at Skegness is calling for people from all walks of life to go along and see how they could help crew the lifeboats and assist with launch and recovery when they go on service.

Richard Watson, Skegness RNLI 2nd Coxswain, is keen to stress that you don’t need to have sea-going experience to get involved with the RNLI.

He said: “Only 10 per cent of the RNLI’s new recruits come with professional maritime experience. Our lifeboat men and women come from all backgrounds.

“We are looking for anyone aged 17 years and over who is living or working within 10 minutes of the lifeboat station. You need to be willing to volunteer some of your free time to join, which is what I believe to be one of the most exhilarating and rewarding voluntary services that is out there.”

The RNLI provides fantastic training to turn ordinary people into lifesavers and by volunteering; people will gain great experience, knowledge and skills.

For those who don’t want to get involved on the lifeboats, there are other support and fundraising opportunities with the RNLI in Skegness, including assisting with events, helping with publicity and selling souvenirs in the shop.

If you are interested in volunteering for the RNLI, you are invited to call in to the lifeboat station at Skegness on Saturday February 27, anytime from 11am to 2pm or on Wednesday, March 2, anytime from 6pm to 8pm.
