Future of Pavilion in Tower Gardens in question after community groups and organisations fail to take over site, East Lindsey District Council ‘exploring options’
The Pavilion has been empty since 2007.
East Lindsey District Council this morning (Monday) said it was ‘exploring other options’ for the disused Pavilion in Tower Gardens, Skegness after the groups interested in taking it over failed to produce ‘financially robust’ plans for its future.
For a number of months the district council has been working with community groups that expressed an interest in taking on ownership of The Pavilion through a Community Asset Transfer arrangement.
Following the Community Asset Transfer process, one outline Business Plan was submitted to the council for consideration in January.
But, now that the plan has now been independently evaluated, the council said that it was unable to continue with the transfer of ownership - although it did “recognise the effort that has been made by the community groups involved”.
The decision not to proceed leaves a big question mark hanging over the future of the property, which has been vacant for six years.
Corporate property manager at the council, Gary Sargeant, said: “Taking forward a proposal to take on a community building is never easy and I’d like to thank those who have been involved in this process and explored the opportunities.
“Whilst the proposal was clearly well thought out and considered, with a great deal of work done by all concerned, the proposal wasn’t considered financially robust by the independent evaluators.
“The council will now look to explore other options around the future of the Pavilion.”
The Pavilion, formally known as Inn on the Park, has been vacant since 2007 after being disused for many years by the previous tenant. During this time, the building fell into a significant state of disrepair.
