Residents who were hit hard by severe summer flooding in a Skegness street are still waiting for answers regarding prevention 14 weeks on from the chaos.

The same homes were hit five years ago, costing the flood prone owners in Sunningdale Close more misery and money.

Now residents fear, if it happens again, their homes won’t gain insurance despite already paying double on their premiums.

“We’ve heard nothing from any of the authorities, It’s 14 weeks on and not a thing has been done. My house was completely flooded [July 18] and it isn’t even dry now,” said Irma Mellon, homeowner in Sunningdale Close.

“Every time it rains, I fear it because it could all happen again, I feel frustrated and my insurance company has said it won’t insure me if it happens again,” Irma added.

And neighbour, Maureen Bakewell, said: “The water came right up in my utility room and I’m forever wiping damp and mildew off my walls.”

Dave Lee, whose home is only just dry, said: “This happened five years ago. It’s horrendous and we can’t understand why it happens in this cul-de-sac, it must be the drainage system.”

Steve Ross, ELDC’s Drainage Officer, said: “I would reassure residents we are onto this and will shortly be undertaking a programme of remediation work with LCC to help reduce the chance of flooding again. This includes the installation of new road gullies that will help to alleviate issues with surface water flooding.”

ELDC said it could be around ‘two months’ before scheduled work is due to take place and Anglian Water is also carrying out a separate investigation.
