Family searches for historic boat’s past

Framer Boat fundraiser

Framer Boat fundraiser

A boat which was meant as a past time and enjoyable hobby has become something of quest for one Skegness family who hope to discover its rich historic past.

David Bradford and his son Dean took on the Framer London 1937 boat some time ago but were not phased by the mounting work to help restore it to its former glory,

“The boat really is a national treasure; it’s listed on the historic boats list and it could be a tourist attraction but in the state it’s in, it doesn’t look its best,” said David.

The family even held a fundraising event at Seathorne Arms, Winthorpe on Saturday, February 24, to help boost funds to help the family raise awareness of the boat’s past and complete restoration work.

“We had a lot of people who were interested in the boat and it really is important because, despite the odds, it survived the brunt of WWII after it was originally used as a search and rescue Thames river cruiser.”

“The boat helped pick up those men fallen from the skies or those who needed rescuing during the war,” added David.

The boat, which is currently moored in Boston, has seen many changes over the years and David is hoping to find volunteers, historians and anyone interested in the boat to help in the hunt for details.

The family also keeps a blog to chart the boat’s history. Visit the blog at www.ourlittleship.blogspot.co.uk or call 07835 301423.
