There was a strong message for families who went along to Skegness beach over the Bank Holiday weekend for some sandcastle fun.

Sponsors of the workshops and competition Anglian Water (AW) were there to explain what visitors and residents can do to reduce the threat of floods in the resort and maintain water quality.

Collette Parker, customer engagement manager, is lead of AW’s Keep It Clear campaign.

She said: “We are very pleased to be part of this fabulous event and to see families being so creative with sand. My particular favourite was the reclining ‘Elvis’.

“But we are also bringing an important message that we all need to play our part to keep pipes clear - which means not flushing items such as wipes and sanitary waste.

“If flooding and pollution occurs it is not pleasant. You have a beautiful beach here - let’s work together to keep it that way.”

Also present at the festival were representatives of the Skegness Coastal Access For All campaign. They also had a stall and displayed billboards promoting their campaign to gain access through all paths along the coast and keep them clear of drifting sand and rubbish.

Firefighters from Skegness Fire Station were out talking to dog walkers along the promenade and handing out leaflets about the dangers to walkers of letting dogs swim in the sea, lakes and rivers as park of their Be Water Aware campaign.
