AN inspirational teen is set to be honoured when a host of phenomenally talented dancers and singers from Skegness take to the London West End stage later this month.

The Janice Sutton School of Dance will grace one of the world’s most famous stages - Her Majesty’s Theatre in the West End - after a scout looking for performers for a charity show was blown away by their latest ‘Two Tickets to Broadway’ shows at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.

The director and producer of the one-off West End charity show had travelled to the Lincolnshire coast to scout out two possible song and dance routines for their London extravaganza on September 23.

But they were so impressed by the Janice Sutton dancers that the two routines they had intended to offer the youngsters instead doubled to four!

They will now dance to a sell-out crowd in the West End show, which is being held to raise money for brain tumour charities.

And in a second moving honour for one Skegness girl, the Janice Sutton School is set to dedicate their large segments of the show to inspirational local teenager Starr Halley, who has fought a brave battle against a brain tumour herself.
Starr has moved many people with her determination after being diagnosed with the tumour in 2009.

Her inspirational fight saw her win the honour of carrying the Olympic flame in Skegness in June.

And her beaming smile and fantastic spirit on the day are one of the reasons for the dance school’s moving decision.

Janice Sutton said: “The show is in aid of children with brain tumours, and I was so inspired by Starr Halley’s turn in the recent SO Festival and Olympic torch procession that we have dedicated our performance in London to her.

“She will have her name in the programme to prove that she is the ‘Starr for Skegness’ that evening.

“She has overcome operations and has learned to walk again and proved to so many people that with will, courage and determination they can overcome anything.”

Janice added that she and her dancers were also delighted to be playing such an integral part in the new London show.

“It is such an honour and a great boost for the school and our town - we will be flying the flag high for Skegness that evening. It’s also a great honour for our young performers to tread the boards of a theatre where great performers like Judy Garland and many legendary superstars of the world of showbiz have performed.

“The director had visited Skegness with the view of auditioning two pieces for inclusion in the show, but he was so amazed by the performances that by the interval he wanted three, and by the end of the show he asked for four!”
