Cycle challenge for Buster

An energetic man raised hundreds for Comic Relief when he cycled over eighty miles from Alfreton to Skegness last Friday.
Stephen, known as Buster, Sanders, 24, formerly of Skegness, felt inspired to do something for Red Nose Day after watching actor David Tennant on television urging people to help just a few days before the big day.
“David Tennant said ‘don’t be the person that just sits and watches this, do something’, so that’s what I decided to do. I used to live in Skegness and have family that live there and around, so thought I could bike ride from Alfreton to Skegness and raise money at the same time,” said Buster.
So armed with his bike, and DIY t-shirt to alert passers-by of his journey, Buster, who suffers from ADHD and a mild learning disability, jumped on his bike alone and cycled the 88.8 miles to the Clock Tower in Skegness - making it into town around 9.30pm.
“My brother-in-law came to meet me about the 18 mile mark to make sure I was okay and give me some support but what I will say, is the shops and people I met along the way were so supportive, I’m really grateful,” added Buster.
Buster’s family also arrived into Skegness to surprise him on the night, including his mum Karen Dawkins, who lives in Boston, she said: “I’m really proud of Buster, he has done so well and I can’t believe he did it.”
So far Buster has managed to raise over £250, but he says more is still coming in and he is thrilled with the amount so far as he didn’t set himself a target.
“I thought, whatever I raise will be a good achievement and I am so grateful for those who have supported me,” said Buster.
Despite Buster having never done a similar challenge, it has not put him off wanting to do another bike ride for charity in the future.
“I would like to do one again even though I feel really sore and I’m aching today.” he added.
