A HARVEST service and lunch was held in All Saints Church in Croft recently.

Once again, the local children were very involved with the service. Emily and Alice Dowlman, Ellie and Charlotte Drury, William and Lorna Bowser, Macy Clayton and Ryan Pain all read poems and stories of harvest.

The church bells were rung before the service and during the service Father Bryant blessed the new bell ropes, which are to be hung shortly.

“We are most grateful for those who give their time to ring the bells in this beautiful old church,” said a spokesperson.

“The service was followed by a delicious ploughmans lunch.

“Numbers were down on previous years, but the food was just as delicious.

“The auction of produce proved, as usual, a lively affair. The older generations didn’t get a chance to put a hand in the air when it came to chocolates and sweets. The children vigorously outbid each other, with everyone leaving with something.

“Many thanks must go to all those who helped to make the day a success; Stacy Smith, Gill Dowlman and Janet Coleman for such a delicious lunch; Kevin Bedford for his kind donation of salad and vegetables; Pam and Shane Thompson for their slick operation of the auction, and Roy Sanderson for squeezing so much out of the bidders (who sometimes were amazed themselves at their purchases),” they added.

The luncheon raised £253 for church funds and the auction generated £297 for the Friends of Skegness Hospital.
