An ex-army couple have won the battle of the bulge, shedding a combined weight of more than 16 stone.

Tipping the scales at nearly 24 stone, he decided to take action along with ex-SNCO Barbara.
Michael said: “My weight problem started after I suffered a heart attack training troops for deployment in Bosnia. I used to do weight training but my doctor put a stop to that.
“I gave up smoking which made it worse because I was comfort eating to occupy the time.”

Michael has gone through a change of wardrobe shrinking from a size 54 to 36 .
After suffering a life-long weight issues, Barbara has lost seven stone.
Previously tipping the scales at more than 17st she is now a svelte 9st12lbs -three stone lighter than when signing up as a 19-year-old.
Joining the Skegness Slimming World group run by Rebecca Stones, Michael and Barbara followed the food optimising eating plan.
Michael said: “Incredibly we eat more than before, just healthier. We have more fruit and vegetables, cook in low fat oils and use sweeteners instead of sugar.
“We still eat our favourite foods, full English breakfasts, roast dinners and pasta with savoury sauces.”
Now leading an active lifestyle, they swim six days a week and enjoy walking their pedigree Cairn Terriers.
Michael said:“Somebody came up to me recently and asked if I had married someone else, Barabara has changed so much. She went to visit family in Bradford recently and her nieces couldn’t believe how she looked.”
Now Michael is inspiring others to follow in his footsteps with his own Slimming World group in Spilsby. Another group at Burgh le Marsh starts on August 6.
