Computer hub launch
Organisers behind an exciting new computing hub in Ingoldmells have successfully overcome a number of technical hitches to finally announce a launch date for the facility.
Ingoldmells Community Group will open the 12 computer hub at St Peter and St Paul’s Church Hall on November 5 with a grand launch party scheduled for November 16.
The announcement follows a range of technical problems, including inadequate internet speeds and inappropriate host locations, which jeopardised the £28,000 of National Lottery funding secured for the project.
Group chairman, Maurice Darnell said: “It feels absolutely fantastic to have progressed to this point after all our troubles.
“When it’s up and running it will be a resource for the whole village to use and benefit from.”
The group discovered that the initial broadband speeds were too slow but managed to source a company that will provide fast internet speeds via satellite technology.
When the hub opens it will offer free courses to help villagers get up to speed and benefit from all of the advantages computers can bring.
Mr Darnell hopes people will use it to access information, apply for jobs and keep in touch with relatives. Call him on 01754 873405 for more info.
