Coastguard and helicopter crews in late night search for missing man along Skegness coast

Coastguard crews were searching the Skegness coast on Monday night.

Coastguard crews were searching the Skegness coast on Monday night.

Rescue crews braved force eight winds and freezing temperatures to search the Skegness coast for a missing man last night.

Coastguard crews from Chapel St Leonards, Skegness and Wrangle were joined by a Rescue 128 helicopter as they searched the dunes and icy North Sea for the missing dog walker.

The 12 coastguards combed the beach between 9.50pm and 2am while the helicopter searched the sea but the only discovery was his dog and car on South Parade.

Chapel station manager Mark Smith said: “The weather was incredibly rough, we had force six westerly winds gusting force eight, snow showers and minus eight wind chill - it was tough conditions and a difficult search.”

Update: Police have now announced details of the missing man and appealed for public help locating him. See associated story
