Coastal flooding events set
A series of events will be held in Lincolnshire this month to commemorate the terrible events of 60 years ago, when seawater flooded inland along the county’s coast.
On January 31, 1953, severe gales, combined with an unusually high spring tide, caused the sea to surge inland with devastating effects.
Memorial services to commemorate those who lost their lives will be held on January 31 at 2pm at Dunes Theatre, Mablethorpe, followed by the unveiling and dedication of a memorial stone at 3pm; 4.30pm St Peter and St Paul Church, Ingoldmells; 6pm St Matthew’s Church, Skegness, service to be led by the Bishop of Lincoln. The service will be preceded by a blessing of the sea defences at Skegness at Scarborough Esplanade at 5.40pm, and a torch-lit procession to the church.
