A prestigious ambassadorial role in Skegness may be expanding its duties to promote the town more widely this year.

The Skegness Carnival Queen and Princesses are hoped to represent the resort at towns across the country as part of their enhanced duties for the coming year.

Praising this year’s Queen and Princess, Skegness Carnival Committee chairman Kris Bell, said the positions had been ‘rejuvenated’ since their appointment last summer, which had opened avenues for further development.

Speaking at a recent business breakfast, Mr Bell said: “This year’s Skegness Carnival Queen and Princess have been absolutely fantastic - we had a bumper year to rejuvenate the position. We’ve been really lucky this year, they’ve represented us well at all civic and public events. Now we’re looking at sending them further afield so that our Carnival Queen will represent Skegness in other areas of the country.

“These girls will got out to different events to represent the town and bring the tourists back.”

Mr Bell also asked business representatives at the meeting, held at the Grosvnor House Hotel, to invite the Queen and Princess to any events they may hold locally.

He said: I would ask you all, if you are doing any event and want to add a bit of glitz and glamour, ask us along. It will give your event a bit of sparkle and it makes the girls feel worthy that they’ve achieved something.”
