Donna Marshall, of Linden Square, started a petition after reading the Skegness Standard article revealing East Lindsey District Council could consider closing paddling pools in making tough decisions on how to achieve the £6 million savings required to balance the books over the next four years.

Mrs Marshall, who has handed the petition with 4,000 signatures to ELDC, attended Wednesday’s meeting of Skegness Town Council and asked for assurance councillors would take on responsibility for the Fairy Dell if asked.

Coun Steve Kirk said decisions about the Draft Transformation prograsmme would not be available until the end of June, which would be the time the town council might be approached about the Fairy Dell and asked to take on responsibility for it.

He said: “We fought to save it in 2005 and my views have not changed. Three generations of my family have enjoyed it and I would like to think my son and his family will too. It would be sacrilege for it to go.”
