Despite a ‘thorough investigation’ by Lincolnshire Police over the past five months, the CPS has determined that there was insufficient evidence to charge the two local men in connection with the robbery, which took place at McColl’s newsagents in Eastgate, Louth, on the evening of November 29.

The robbers forced a female member of staff to hand over cash from a safe, before fleeing on foot. The staff member was unhurt, but shaken by the incident.

The two men (aged 17 and 21) had their bail extended three times following their initial arrests on suspicion of robbery, burglary, and theft from a shop on December 15.

When approached by the Leader, McColl’s head office declined to comment.
