There was ‘high drama’ in Alford Town square approximately an hour ago when a ‘smoking car’ caused quite a commotion.
One of our eagle-eyed readers were perfectly placed as the drama unfolded and quickly sent the Standard some dramatic pictures from the scene.
Eyewitness Hilary Barrett reported: “a very loud bang in Alford”, where a car had allegedly, “lurched to the side of the road outside the Anchor pub on East Street and was immediately engulfed in smoke”.
It is thought “both driver and passenger leapt out and ran for safety” and “in spite of the rain crowds gathered and the fire brigade was called.”
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed just before 3pm, “we were called to the Market place in Alford to reports of a car on fire. A crew attended but it was a false alarm.
The excessive smoke was due to a faulty turbo in the car.”
