Branch elects first female chair

A LOCAL branch of a political party has appointed its first female chairman.

Brenda Futers was elected chairman of the Skegness and Wainfleet Branch of the Labour Party on January 9, replacing her predecessor Jim Carpenter.

She said: “The members of the Skegness and Wainfleet Branch of the Labour Party gave me a real vote of confidence by electing me their chairman and I am honoured to be elected as their very first lady chairman of the branch.

“I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, not least completing the preparations for taking back our county council seats in the 2013 elections.”

After the recent resignation of a Labour Party member from Skegness Town Council, Brenda has announced she will be looking to have another of her party members co-opted onto the council to avoid the necessity of a by-election.

However, as the Conservative Party has also announced its intention to stand for the vacant seat, a by-election seems more than likely.

Brenda also intends to increase the party’s local branch membership in line with the rest of the East Midlands which has seen numbers rise by 4,000 since the general election.
