Anderby Creek charity in £5,500 boost to lifesavers

Staff and customers at an Anderby cafe have raised a phenomenal sum for two lifesaving organisations through a year of tireless charity work.
The Beach Cafe, representing the Anderby Creek Community Charity, has presented Chapel St Leonards Coastguard and Mablethorpe RNLI with the proceeds of table top sales, raffles, race nights and numerous other fundraisers held throughout the year.
Cafe owner Lynn Banks said: “We would like to thank everyone that has helped - the staff, the residents and the holidaymakers, because if it was not for them, this could never have happened. The two organisations are both needed around here - it’s something that affects everyone and I think it’s absolutely fantastic what they do.”
Although the £5,500 presented on Saturday night was the lowest sum raised since the charity formed in 2006, the total donated now exceeds £35,000 - for which both organisations are immensely grateful.
Coastguard sector manager for Lincolnshire, Sam Jessop, said she was humbled by the £2,000 donation, which will go to a benevolent fund, helping rescue officers and their families during times of hardship.
She said: “I’ve never seen anything like it - it’s unprecedented and marvellous that such a small community has been able to raise so much money - I take my hat off to them.”
The Mablethorpe RNLI which received £3,500 has also expressed its sincere thanks to the charity. Operations manager Dale Chapman said: “We are very grateful for this generous donation from the Anderby Creek Community Charity, which has been supporting the RNLI for several years now. I know they work hard to raise this money with a variety of stalls, raffles and fundraising events and I’d like to thank everyone who got involved or contributed in some way.”
