Ambulance service to launch ‘Dignity Pledges’ for better service
EMAS adult safeguarding lead, Zoe Rodger consults with patient Daisy Wicks at London Road Community Hospital in Derby on EMAS Dignity Pledges.
Ambulance staff and their patients have devised a set of pledges to provide dignified care throughout the service.
East Midlands Ambulance Service will launch its ‘Dignity Pledges’ on Dignity Action Day, this Friday, following consultation between staff and public.
Adult safeguarding lead Zoe Rodger said: “Our Dignity Pledges remind us what dignified care looks like.
“They help us to raise awareness with patients and staff alike, whilst signifying our commitment to continuous improvement to the quality of care and the experience had by the people who use our service.
“The pledges include encouraging staff to challenge poor practice, provide privacy during each interaction with the service and to take accountability and reflect on our actions to improve practice.
“For the public, we ask that they treat our staff with respect and dignity and support our clinicians by co-operating with their requests, for example: responding to questions about the accident or incident as calmly as possible, enabling our crews to give timely and appropriate care.”
The new EMAS Dignity Pledges are to:
Respect colleagues, service users and the public’s individuality and freedom of choice.
Encourage and support each person in their own independence.
Support our patients, the public and colleagues to enable them to communicate and understand each other’s needs
Provide privacy and dignity during all interaction with our service.
Engage with our service users and colleagues to ensure they are informed and involved.
Challenge poor practice and have zero tolerance of abuse.
Take accountability and reflect on our own actions to improve our practice.
