Alford festival for animal charities
Fundraisers at Tess Turner's New Year's Eve raffle
A successful year of fundraising in Alford, which contributed thousands to animal charities, has inspired its organiser to host a festival in the town this summer.
Animal lover Tess Turner has raised £2,700 for five charities through a variety night, cake sales and a raffle to win a year’s free hairdressing at her salon - Talking Heads on West Street.
Despite failing to reach her £5,000 target, Tess is delighted by the total, thankful for all the support and determined to reach even greater heights in 2013. She said: “I only wish I could have met my target so that all the charities could receive a much larger donation but it’s only made me more determined to work even harder this year to make more money for the animals.”
Tess intends to raise further funds this year by continuing her cake sales, organising a repeat of the popular variety show - Saturday Night at the Alford Palladium and, for the first time, booking a new festival for the town.
The intrepid fundraiser has teamed up with Cowstock - a company which organises charity concerts in rural areas and is currently seeking bands and a venue for the event.
Charities benefiting from last year’s fundraising are: Keith’s Rescue Dogs, Radcliffe’s Donkey Sanctuary, The Arc , K-9 Angels and Trikala.
