£5,200 grant handouts include donations to Spilsby, Burgh le Marsh and Chapel St Leonards groups

Local communities have received a welcome cash boost after councillors donated over £5,200 to deserving groups and causes.

Communities within the Standard’s patch received the lion’s share of the windfall, picking up no fewer than £4,200 worth of grants across nine different groups.

The money was awarded in the latest round of councillor community initiative grants.

The Croft ward was the biggest winner - receiving £1,800 worth of handouts.

Coun Pauline Cooper awarded all four of the grants in that ward. These included £600 to the Little Steeping Village Hall Committee to replace damaged windows at the village hall and £600 to Croft Parish Council for the purchase and fitting of a Queen’s jubilee bench.

She also awarded £410 to Irby and Bratoft Village Hall as a contribution towards the cost of a CCTV system and £190 to Thorpe St Peter Parish Council towards the costs of cleaning the war memorial.

Elsewhere, the Halton Holegate ward was the next most successful. Councillor Jim Swanson gave £350 to Ramsden Hall Management Committee for the purchase of signage, posts and trees for the village hall and £500 to East Keal Parochial Church Council for the purchase and installation of railings on the church’s boiler house, as well as the purchase of moss removal chemicals.

Nearby Spilsby was awarded £750; Councillor Rod Williams gifting the money to Spilsby Town Council for the purchase of winter maintenance equipment.

In Burgh le Marsh, Councillor Neil Cooper gave £500 to the town’s Baptist Church for the purchase of DVDs, craft materials and activity equipment for summer school sessions.

And, rounding out the local grants, Councillor Hazel Newcombe donated £300 to the Hogsthorpe Parent and Toddler Group to purchase new equipment for under fives, ensuring the group can continue.
