300 new homes on the cards for East Lindsey village

At the East Lindsey planning meeting, councillors voted 7-3 in favour of an outline application by the Holton Partnership - a consortium of local farmers - for the proposed development off Louth Road in Holton le Clay.

The scheme also embraces a new recreation ground, a play area, allotment gardens and a cemetery extension.

During the debate, Coun Tom Ashton and Coun Sid Dennis both commended the “goodwill” shown by the applicants in their negotiations both with villagers and with planning officers.

“A lot of work has gone into what is a well thought out scheme,” said Coun Ashton.

Also in favour was ward representative Coun Terry Aldridge, though he expressed caution about the potential for flooding and the prospect of increased peak hour congestion of traffic into and out of Grimsby, especially at the A16 Tollbar roundabout.

Coun Stuart Watson spoke against the proposal, urging committee colleagues not to be “carried away with the goodies on offer”.

He demanded: “This development is far too large - where is the employment to make it sustainable?”

In presentations to the committee, misgivings were also sounded by parish council vice-chair Coun Helen Reynolds, community development chair Coun Bob Bolton, and Holton le Clay’s other ward representative, Coun Siobhan Weller.

But Simon Williams, representing the applicants, insisted “all matters” had been addressed during the 10 years it took for the project to come forward.

“The community will benefit from what will be a legacy project,” he insisted.
