THE SPILSBY Branch of the Royal British Legion has already succeeded in raising more money for the Poppy Appeal this year than it did in 2010, a meeting heard last week.

At the branch’s December meeting last Wednesday, members were informed that the total had surpassed the previous effort, with more money still to come in.

The total is expected to be announced at a later date.

Elsewhere, the newly elected chairman Nick Pettit opened the meeting with the saying of the homage.

The meeting heard that membership of the branch now stood just shy of 100, with 94 people on the books following the arrival of a number of new faces.

During the break the raffle was drawn and the members then enjoyed a buffet provided by The Red Lion.

In any other business the talk was of next year’s outings.

Members are requested to come along to the next meeting with their suggestions of where they would like to go.

The date of the next meeting will be Wednesday, January 18 at The Red Lion at 7.30pm.

New members are always welcome.

Meanwhile, members set dates for a number of events in the new year.

Next year’s St George’s Day sausage & mash will be on Saturday, April 21 of April, and the garden party will be on July 1.

There being no further business the meeting closed with the chairman wishing all the members a Happy Christmas.
