A student has spent the summer holiday learning to fly a glider before he returns to university.
Jonathon Richardson visited the Lincolnshire Gliding Club at Strubby, near Alford on July 1 when he enjoyed his first trial flight in a glider.
He enjoyed it so much that he decided to join the club and set himself the very ambitious target of flying a glider solo before returning to Hull University at to continue his degree in languages.
This presented a real challenge to both Jonathon and the club’s instructors. Flying at every opportunity however he completed his first solo flight on August 11 after only six weeks, a very impressive achievement.
Jonathon, from Mablethorpe, said: “It has been a fantastic few weeks. The club is very friendly and it is a very inexpensive way to learn to fly. I’m now gaining further experience in the club’s single seat glider and ultimately hope to progress to cross country flights’.
