A DEDICATED employee celebrated then waved farewell to colleagues and friends after 50 years of service.

Janet Pell has worked for Willsons Chartered Surveyors for over 50 years and has also never had a day off sick in that time.

Many of her friends and colleagues past and present called into the Alford office last Friday to wish her well.

Janet joined the firm of Young & Boulton – as it was known then, in August 1960 on a wage of £2 per week and cycled the 12 mile round trip from her family’s home in Hasthorpe.

The senior partner at that time was Barney Boulton, grandfather of the present resident partner James – meaning that Janet has worked with three generations of the Boulton family.

Janet said the firm has seen many changes over the years and she remembers when she first started one of her tasks which was having to go down to the cellar to refuel the coke central heating boiler.

A large part of her work involved taking entries for the Alford Cattle Market entries and arranging transportation of livestock - Alford Market closed in 1987.

Over the years, Janet has worked on the accountancy side and the estate agency side of the business.

Janet said: “One of the biggest changes to office life has been new technology, making life so much easier.”

Her colleagues and friends said that Janet will be missed by everyone and they all wish her a long and happy retirement.
