Teams taking part in the TMUK MonkeyBall Rally are heading for Skegness in the final leg of their journey to raise money for charity.

Five cars left Coalville in Leicester last Friday in vehicles worth no more than £500.

Their journey has taken them around the region in what the drivers descibe as a “frankly ridiculous adventure”.

But they have a serious mission to raise funds for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and Make a Wish Foundation - and have already smashed their £1,000 target.

Ten guys are in the teams and have spent a week sleeping rough in cars and keeping their motors going. Kev Allen said: “We’ve had a crash and an exhaust fell off but we just keep on going. It’s been quite an adventure and now we are looking forward to getting to Skegness.”

They expect to arrive around 6pm and plan to have a tour around the resort before heading to Skegness Fire Station, where the crew are letting them camp for the night. Then they plan to park at Skegness Lifeboat Station tomorrow to meet members of the public and share their stories.

You can follow the final part of their journey on Facebook, where they are broadcasting live.
