A YOUNG man’s life hung in the balance on Friday morning after he suffered serious head injuries in a road crash.

The 18-year-old’s white Ford Fiesta van was in collision with a blue Fiat Punto on the A158 at Burgh le Marsh shortly before 8am.

Emergency services including the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance attended the accident and the casualty was taken to Boston Pilgrim Hospital.

Speaking to the Standard at 10am a police spokesman said that his injuries were “very serious and the next half hour is vital to him”.

As of early afternoon the teen was still fighting for his life but remained in a ‘very poorly’ condition.

It is understood he is from Skegness.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time with diversions in place while vehicle inspections are carried out.

The driver of the Punto did not suffer any serious injuries but was taken to Skegness Hospital. She has since been released from hospital.
