THE number of visits to East Lindsey District Council leisure centres has increased “significantly” in the past two years.
Figures released by the district council reveal that the number of visits jumped by nearly 83,000 from 556,895 in 2010/11 to 639,932 in 2011/12 - an increase of 14.9 per cent.
Over the past five years, the district council has invested around £15m in improved leisure facilities across East Lindsey, including the Sports Pavilion on Wainfleet Road in Skegness.
Portfolio Holder for Leisure in East Lindsey, Councillor Adam Grist, said: “The council made a significant investment in leisure because we believe that if we provide great facilities people will want to use them, ultimately improving health locally.
“As well as the leisure centres having a great range of facilities and programming, the nation has been inspired by London 2012.
“We need to ensure that post Games we continue to encourage people to take regular exercise to remain fit and healthy.”
