A TRAINEE paediatric nurse rallied the local community together in support of a hospice for children with life limiting illnesses.
Jemma Lake, 20, recently raised £870 for Martin House Hospice through a charity day at her parents garden in Anderby Creek.
She said: “Through my training at York University I’ve come across people who use the hospice and it’s a fantastic place.
“The day was a big success, we weren’t meant to start until 2pm but by noon we had set up the tables and the place was rammed - it was a bit manic.”
Friends, neighbours and holiday makers all helped raise the money by taking part in competitions, charity auctions and a table top sale.
Jemma later went on to run the Great North Run in Newcastle and topped the fund rasing tally well over the thousand pound mark.
