The beautiful gardens of Brock House in Halton Holegate will be opening this weekend for a special fundraising event in aid of a greyhound sanctuary.

Visitors are invited to take a stroll around the three acre grounds, which feature walled cottage gardens, wildlife and formal ponds, woodland walks and a flock of poultry in the paddock this Sunday from 2pm until 5pm.

Greyhouds like Cady and Balzac will benefit from the Brock House open garden event.

Funds raised on the day will go to Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary, from whom garden owner Janet Harwood received her two beloved pets.

“It’s an excellent centre and they do a fantastic job,” she said. “Greyhounds make wonderful pets, as contrary to what most people believe, they do not need a huge amount of exercise - most are content to occupy a sofa for long periods.”

Guests will be able to enjoy home made teas and ice cream, purchase plants and enter a raffle as well as pick up information about how to adopt a retired greyhound.

Janet’s last event raised £1,200 for charity, which she hopes to top on Sunday. The event will be signposted.
