The owner of the shop and petrol station devastated by fire in Ingoldmells last week has said the businesses are likely to remain closed for at least two months.
The businessman also estimates that the damage caused to his Spar shop and adjoining Gulf petrol station during the fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning will cost around £80,000 to repair.
He said: “I was totally devastated - it’s a real shock for anyone to see their business go up in smoke but what has given me peace of mind was that the fire didn’t start at our site.”
An update from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has also confirmed that the fire did not begin in the Gulf filling station, contrary to initial reports, but at a nearby auto-repair shop which managed to escape relatively unscathed.
The Spar was the worst hit during the blaze and the Gulf petrol station was also moderately damaged, but it is hoped a mobile filling station can be opened on the site while repairs are taking place.
Staff will continue to be paid during the businesses’ closure.
